This is an outfit I put together for dinner this evening. The speckled top belongs to my mother, I took it from an old box from the roof space, such a great fashion find. I'm so grateful my mother kept her clothes and most importantly I am soooo glad I can fit into them, well when I say them, that is a lie, my mother was a size 8 when she was my age, so some of her amazing clothes unfortunately do not fit. She had a teeny tiny little waist, and truth be told after 6 kids this has quite frankly remained the case (let's toast to good genes).
My love for my mother's clothes began when I was searching/moseying in the roof space of our house and found bags of vintage clothing. I was only 15 and I thought I had died and gone to closet heaven, these clothes became a staple in my wardrobe throughout my teenage years and still last me well into my twenties. I sometimes think to myself that I should keep my clothes so that someday my children can have the same discovery, but then I can't seem to grasp the idea that in approx 20 years time that will be the case. It is a true saying that fashion repeats itself, you only have to look at the trends of today.
It's a wonderful feeling wearing vintage clothing, it sets you apart from the trends set out for you in the high street. I like clothes with stories behind them, okay the smell I am not so fond of, but nothing a good wash or dry clean will not disguise.
Here is another picture of me wearing my mother's shirt from 1989, WOW 23 years ago??
If you are just like me and love to wear clothing that hold great stories and history, go check your roof space, or your grandmother's roof space, you never know what little gems will be waiting to be brought to life. And don't forget there is always your local charity shop, Ebay or even ASOS Marketplace, they all have some amazing vintage clothing, some at reasonable prices. Get searching...
I am in the middle of trying the product's from this month's Glossybox, so I will post a review soon, I am also applying for jobs in journalism (much to my dismay), all in all it's been a busy busy week. March has arrived and I feel like time is passing by oh so quickly! Anyway, thanks for reading!
Love, Gemma x
